The well-known writer and philosopher Henry David Thoreau has said â€Å" Regard not your past failures nor successes. All the past is equally a failure and a success; it is a success in as much as it offers you the present opportunity.† I interpret these words as having a meaning that I shouldn’t dwell on my failures or successes as they are it is equal along with the present that provides me myself with greater opportunities. The present should provide me myself with a sort of motivation, along with getting rid of failures and making sure my life has successes too. When I consider these words what comes to my mind is when I was playing little league baseball for the all star team in Seymour as this experience it provided successes and†¦show more content†¦Last but certainly not least were the coaches who gave up their own time to coach a team of immature but athletic 12-year-olds. So the people involved gave us success to keep playing for each other and for our family members. Unfortunately, we got beat in the sectional playoffs and had no shot of making it to the Little League World Series. Even though we didn’t reach our goal the experience that it left with me myself was amazing. With the quote that Thoreau comment had stated about not dwelling in the past is right with this story because we did fail and succeed and I did not dwell on it as much because I knew that the present and future opportunities are going to be better and dwelling on the past might make me miss it. The experience really told me that I can do anything once I put my mind to it since we did win our district for the third straight year which goes to show that almost anything is possible. My relationship to the world is seeing another 12-year-old group of boys trying to accomplish the goals that my team set out to do also. Even seeing the Little League World Series on T.V. makes me think back to when I was once that same 12-year-old boy playing baseball with my friends and making memories to last a lifetime. In conclusion, this memory event was based on the quote that Thoreau wrote because we as a team had successes along with failures but didn’t dwell on them since the present is too important to miss.
